CONCERT SERIES 2008 Concert No. 4

SISTER AWAKE!

English Ayres

3.00pm, Sunday 13 July, 2008
Tickets:  £12,  £8
Woman's journey through life as told in songs and poems of the Elizabethan Age, with occasional diversions to the 15th, 17th and 18th centuries. Many of the texts are by the poet Mary Wroth, a niece of Philip Sidney, with lute songs by Campion, Johnson, Dowland and Morley. "Melia's tuning and diction are faultless", "she uses precisely the correct level of vocal volume, balancing beautifully with the lute; Goodwin's accompaniments match her expressive phrasing perfectly." - David Hill
Picture by kind permission of the Viscount De L'Isle, from his private collection at Penshurst Place.
