Cambridge Early Music Concerts 2012

A CHAMBER MESSIAH

Solomon's Knot - Baroque Collective

7.00pm, Thursday 29 November, 2012
PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF START TIME

Uniting musicians trained at Cambridge, the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, William Christie's Jardin des Voix and the European Baroque Academy, Solomon's Knot is dedicated to "blowing respectful layers of dust off Baroque repertoire" [Musical Opinion, 2010] and entertaining audiences with carefully-constructed programmes.
Their "Chamber" Messiah performance of Handel's masterpiece with just eight singers and a tiny band, was a hit at St John's, Smith Square last year, prompting a distinguished Handel scholar to say: To produce a wholly new version of Messiah is remarkable in itself but to infuse it with such engagement, commitment, imagination, thoughtfulness, understanding, sensitivity, tension, energy, contrast and taste - deserved the ovation you got and more.
Seven of Solomon's Knot's eight singers are Cambridge alumni (and five of them from Trinity).
There will be a pre-concert talk at 6.00pm on 29th November by Dr Ruth Smith, Jonathan Sells, Julian Forbes and James Halliday. Free to ticket-holders.  More  »
