BAROQUE INSIGHT

Lute Duo

3.00pm, Sunday 20 November, 2011

This fabulously talented Polish duo presents a showcase of music for Baroque guitar and theorbo. This fertile combination is one which flourished across Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries, the low register of the theorbo combining beautifully with the high range resonance of the Baroque guitar. Originally accompanying instruments, the two instruments were often brought naturally together in basso continuo groups. Anna and Anton recreate the spontaneity inherent in the music, in a thrilling performance which totally ensnares the audience. Their programme includes works by Piccinini, Kapsberger, Santiago de Murcia, Sanz, de Visée, Couperin and Forqueray.
Tea will be served in the interval.
