Cambridge Early Music Concerts 2009

HANDEL IN ENGLAND

Baroque Summer School Students, The Parley of Instruments dir. Peter Holman and Philip Thorby

7.30 pm, Saturday 1 August, 2009

Music for choir, orchestra and chamber groups, performed using Baroque instruments by the summer school students, under the direction of their tutors, members of The Parley of Instruments. The programme focuses on Handel's marvellously fruitful English period, and the music of his contemporaries in England and Europe. The evening includes sections of Handel's charming masque Acis & Galatea, a tragicomic tale of gods, mortals and giants; and Handel's final (and most splendid) version of the magnificent Chandos anthem As pants the hart.
